Wednesday update 7-23-08

The boys won last night and are now into the semi-finals! Murrayhill played Pendleton for the last game of pool play. Our boys easily won this game 12 to 1 in 5 innings. Reza and Jacob pitched very well. Connor came in to get the last out so that Jacob was only at 19 pitches and available for today or tomorrow.

Drew Pryor started the game with a lead off homer!! What an exciting hit ... his WHOLE family was at the game cheering him on! Connor and David and Jacob also had homers last night.
Chandler will pitch for us tonight (today is his 13th birthday!) in the semis and take us into tomorrow night's finals. Let's go Murrayhill!!

in other Murrayhill news -- Emma's all star softball team won last night and will play their final pool play game on Friday night. Emma went 2 for 2 with 2 successful drag bunts!
GO EMMA!!!

This is a sign on a store in downtown Pendleton:
love that they are happy to see the state tournament in town!!
Since there is so much down time during this tournament we have had to find things to do to fill our days before games. Yesterday most of the moms went on a tour of the Pendleton Underground. It was very interesting and well all had a great time! Below are just a few pics to give an idea of what this underground world was like.

During Prohibition, all the taverns and card games went underground. If they were raided, the men escaped through secret doors into the tunnels.

Tuesday update

Tuesday was another off day for the team. No game until Wednesday. So ... we tried to keep the boys occupied. Some went to a waterpark, some played cards and then we all met up for ice cream in the afternoon. Later in the day the boys had practice followed by a pasta feed by the pool and a night of bunco and dominos!! We had some resistance at first to the idea of game night. The boys would rather run through the halls of the hotel playing hide-and-seek!

so much pasta we had to use the luggage cart to bring it poolside!

Monday 7-21-08 update

The Murrayhill boys played a team from South Suburban little league (Klamath Falls) today and came up a bit short for the first time since post season games started. Chandler pitched a great game and got the only run on the board with a solo homerun shot.
The South Suburban team was solid defensively and their boys could hit. This was some good competition for the boys from district 4.

Matthew did great in the field and was walked in his at bat. :-)

It's still pool play, next game is on Wednesday at 7pm.

Scott Zanon treated all the guys to at a great dinner at a steak house here in Pendleton ....

AND here is where the rest of us had dinner ... Abbey's Pizza. Can't wait until Scott takes all the moms out for dinner!!

no game today -- day off for boys

Today we slept in and then went to Shari's for breakfast/brunch. Not too many fine dining establishments here in Pendleton. The boys and dads then went to see this movie:

HANCOCK
So far the reviews have been pretty good ... sounds like they had fun!

This afternoon, Merede, Diane and I decided to get some laundry done. This is how you dry your uniforms in Pendleton ...

---  Big MURRAYHILL Thank You  ---

Thanks to Ron Wold for putting Scott Zanon in touch with a buddy from the Pendleton area. The boys have use of a great field ANYTIME they want for practice and pregame BP.

Tonight after their practice we'll head over as a large group to this pizza place:

I'm sure there will be some fun photos from tonight.

Go MURRAYHILL!!!

Game #1 - July 19

The Murrayhill 12 yr old All Stars started off their State tournament in Pendleton this afternoon at a 12:30pm game against St. Helens. Connor Shaw was on the mound and opening day nerves got in his way for the first 2 batters, then he settled down and pitched 3 scoreless innings.
David Stiling came in for the 4th inning to complete the 10 - 0 shut out.

Offensive highlights were from Chandler Whitney with 2 smash homers and one from Reza Aleaziz.

The boys spent the rest of the day by the pool and playing hide-and-seek in the hotel. I'm sure the Red Lion loves us! :-)

Next game is on Monday 7-21-08.

GO MURRAYHILL!!!
